- The last meeting of the Glossop & District Speedway Supporters' Club was the 2003 Annual General Meeting which took place on Tuesday 28 January 2003 at the club's regular venue the Globe Inn in Hyde.
The meeting was attended by several of the previous year's Committee Members, the Club President and two members.
The Minutes of the Previous AGM, the Chairperson and Secretary's reports, and the Accounts for the year ended 31 December 2002 were read. . However there were not enough members present to elect a committee for 2003.
It was agreed by all present that the club would be left dormant for a short period to see if any interest would be shown in re-establishing the club. .However if no interest was shown by the end of the year, it was agreed that the 2002 committee would meet again to arrange the distribution of the remaining club funds in line with previous club donations.
During 2003 very little interest has been shown in re-establishing the club, no correspondence by letter or e-mail has been received, and no one has come forward to join the committee.
An attempt by Terry Hardaker was made in 2003 to re-establish a Belle Vue Supporters' Club. . Members of the 2002 GDSSC Committee attended the initial meeting of this proposed new club to see if there was enough interest in a new club which GDSSC could perhaps work alongside. . However the meeting was poorly attended and no new club was formed.
A public meeting of Speedway fans at Belle Vue Stadium on 1 December 2003 again brought up the subject of a supporters' club. .A show of hands was called for to gauge how many people would be interested in joining a supporters' club, but the response was poor with approximately three hands going up.
As previously agreed, the remaining committee members and president met again at the end of 2003. .As very little interest in the club had been shown in the previous 12 months, and other attempts at establishing a Belle Vue Supporters' Club in the area had failed, it was decided that the club should remain dormant for the foreseeable future and that the existing club funds should be fully distributed in line with the club's past donations.
It was therefore agreed that 50% of the existing club funds would be donated to Alan Wilkinson, with the remaining 50% shared equally amongst the 6 main junior riders who raced in second halves at Belle Vue during the 2003 season.
This distribution of funds is expected to take place early in 2004 once the final figures have been agreed with the banks. .
