About G & D S S C

The Glossop & District Speedway Supporters' Club was formed in 1978 by a group of Speedway Supporters mainly from the Tameside area of Greater Manchester/Cheshire who met in a local pub.

They gathered for social evenings and decided that any money raised would be put back into helping Speedway.

Over the years, Glossop & District has raised many tens of thousands of pounds, which have been given back to all areas of Speedway through sponsorship and donations.

Injured riders like Alan Wilkinson, Joe Owen and Roland Danno have all benefited from Glossop & District's work, whilst the club also raised over £800 for Pinderfields hospital following Erik Gundersen's accident.

As an independent supporters' club we are free to donate to any cause our members feel most deserving, although naturally due to our location most donations are centred on Belle Vue - In 1999 the club became the main sponsors of the 'G&DSSC Belle Vue Colts' junior side.

To raise money the club holds regular social evenings on the fourth Tuesday of each month at The Globe Public House, Hyde. . Usually a guest speaker is invited, although occasionally we will stage a quiz night or sports night.

Over the years, no fewer than 9 world champions have appeared at the club and at one meeting Hans Nielsen arrived with a full Danish T.V. crew !
